The holiday season is a wonderful opportunity for us to practice the 5 Tenets of Taekwon-Do in our everyday lives and spread some holiday cheer along the way. I challenge all of us to discover ways we can display these valuable tenets towards the people we come into contact with over the next few weeks. Here are a few examples to get us started and I’m sure you can think of many others:
Take an extra few seconds to say a kind word to someone who might be having a bad day. This could be a family member, a neighbor or even a store clerk.
Show integrity by doing the right thing, even when it’s easier not to. For example, if the cashier gives you back too much change, take the time to correct the error, rather than walk away.
Stay focused on what’s important, even with all of the distractions of the holiday season. If you’re in school, complete homework assignments, study for tests and practice your reading.
Demonstrate self-control by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. You can still join holiday celebrations, but just be cautious about overindulging if this is a challenge for you.
We can show an indomidabe spirit by pushing through adversity and keep striving for the goals that we have set for ourselves. This might mean attending a class even when we’re really tired or are not feeling 100%.
